EASY STREET HOSTS WINE AND CHEESE RECEPTION
Easy Street Home Decor, located at 848 East Jefferson St., Brooksville, will host a wine and cheese reception
for two students of local portrait artist and teacher, Diane Becker, from 7-9 pm. on Weds., November 5, 2008.
Ruth Sheets was born in Georgia, raised five children, was a hair stylist, and studied art for five years. Her medium of choice is oils but she also dabbles in watercolor. Subject matter includes portraits, landscapes and wildlife. Shortly after moving to Spring Hill in 1984, she found Diane and has been a student ever since.
Georgette Schmania always had the desire to start painting.
Not until retiring to Florida did she have the opportunity to attend a workshop at a local Enrichment Center
in Spring Hill. She became a serious student of Diane Becker's and is now devoted to oil painting.
Her work consists of a variety of subjects, including places of interest while traveling, nature, flowers, etc.
The display runs until the end of November.

THE RISING SUN CAFE' WILL HOST AN ARTIST'S RECEPTION WEDS, NOVEMBER 19, 2008 from 5-7 pm
The Rising Sun Cafe', located at 10 S. Main Street, will host an Artist's Reception on Weds., November 19, 2008 from 5-7 pm. for four local artists.
Diane Becker is a portrait artist and teacher who graduated from the School of Fine Art at Washington University in St. Louis, Mo., and relocated to Florida nearly 30 years ago. She taught at PHCC and the Enrichment Center for many years while building a following of private students, now teaching out of a studio in her home. She works primarily in oils to achieve a striking likeness of her subject , appreciating the subtle differences that set each personality apart. She is well known for her mural "EARLY PHYSICIANS OF DOWNTOWN BROOKVILLE" and has participated in many local art shows, garnering awards for her outstanding realism.
Joe Galletta has been practicing photography for over 15 years. He began converting his photo images to paintings in 2006 using Adobe Photoshop and Corel Painter. His canvas is a Wacom tablet, his brush a stylus, and his paint, the ink from an Epson printer. He has exhibited in many venues including Brooksville City Hall , the Spring Hill Art League's Annual Fall Harvest of Art and through the Photographic Society of America in Baltimore, MD,earning many awards and honorable mentions locally and nationally. Joe is a member of the Spring Hill Art League, the Spring Hill Camera Club, and the Photographic Society of America.
Paul Shaskan is a talented artist with a passion for bold color. He states "color evokes emotion". Paul wants each painting to make a strong color statement, and if possible, at the same time evoke a mood or elicit an emotional response in the viewer. He works primarily in oils, painting many of the places he has visited in his travels. His unique style consists of a mix of Impressionism, Expressionism and Primitive representational landscapes and seascapes. He is the Chair Extraordinaire for the Spring Hill Art League's Fall Harvest of Art and works tirelessly to promote the League and the talents of local artists.
Valdora Ward is a self-taught local wildlife artist. She enjoys painting on many different surfaces, such as gourds, blankets, and umbrellas, but perhaps her most unique talent is handpainting on feathers. Her unique feathers are highly sought after, each one of a kind , often finished with beading and glitter. She has art work in Wales, Ireland, Scotland, Russia, Germany, France, Japan and Austraila, Canada, as well as nationwide. She has been a member of the Spring Hill Art League for over 10 years and tirelessly volunteers her facepainting talents at the Harvest of Art each year.
The public is invited to attend, coffee and appetizers will be served. For more information, call The Rising Sun at 848-0090.

| WORKSHOPSThe Art League offers various workshop opportunities throughout the year, usually corresponding to the demos given by local artists at our monthly meetings. Price is determined by the artist conducting the workshop and spots are filled on a first come first served basis. |

| MONDAY PAINT ALONGThe art league holds a paint along every Monday from 9 am to 12 noon at the United Church of Christ, 4244 Mariner Blvd., Spring Hill in Davis Hall. This is a FREE activity, though donations for coffee and doughnuts are welcome. Bring the piece you are working on and join in the fun with other creative people. Everyone is welcome. |

Louise Applegate
|
|
|
|
Louise Applegate began painting as a hobby while living in the midwest. Since retiring to Spring Hill in 1996, she has persued this interest, studying with many noted artists, including Gary Jenkins and Lynne Pittard.
She works primarily in oils, painting florals, wildlife, and landscapes. Louise is active on the Board for the Spring Hill Art League, always ready to get things done. She has exhibited at many local venues, including the Library, Stage West and the Art league's own Harvest of Art.
