SHAL Board Meetings
 First Wednesday of the Month  10:00am to Noon
NEW LOCATION:
The Lake House
1202 Kenlake Avenue, Spring Hill 34606
MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT ~ MARILYN SCHAEFFER

As we start our new year, the Spring Hill Art League (SHAL) is participating in new partnerships with several other city, county, and arts organizations in this area.  The City Manager of the city of Brooksville, Jennene Norman-Vacha, continues to be a staunch advocate for promoting the arts in Brooksville, Hernando County, and surrounding counties.  With this support and our other cooperative efforts, the various components of the local arts community will be showcased.

On September 1st, SHAL moved into the Lake House (1202 Kenlake Ave.), formally beginning our new partnership with the Hernando County Department of Parks and Recreation.  This partnership will save us nearly $2,000 a year in rent and storage costs.  In addition, they will be co-sponsoring our fall festival of the arts, to be called Art By the Lake.  All of our meetings will be held at the Lake House.

We encourage members to attend all meeting for the board and planning the fall festival.  The schedule for monthly meetings at the Lake House will be as follows:

        Board meetings:
  The first Wednesday of each month from 10:00-12:00 a.m.;
        Planning meetings:
  The second Wednesday of each month from 12:00-2:00 a.m.;
        General membership meetings:
  The third Monday of each month from 6:30-8:30 p.m
                                                                                                                      from September through May.

The City of Brooksville will be purchasing a new hanging system for the artwork exhibited in the Uptown Gallery.  This should improve the exhibits in terms of both stability and aesthetics.  The Brooksville Junior Service League and Cemex Inc. have become contributing partners to the gallery, serving at receptions and providing funding for enhancing the gallery.

We have been recommended for a grant in the amount of $5,000 to help fund our Art By the Lake festival.  The actual amount we will receive is still to be determined by the Hernando County Board of County Commissioners in September.  With Parks and Recreation funding some of the costs and with this grant, we should save a great deal of money in the cost of the festival.

We have a new partnership with the Hernando Symphony Orchestra, wherein we have been invited to hang our artists' work in the lobby of the Central High School Theater at their performances in December, February, and April.  It is wonderful to begin a relationship with another segment of the arts community in Hernando County.  We are also in the beginning stages of a partnership with the Pasco County Arts Council.

SHAL is looking forward to an exciting new year, and we welcome new members with open arms.
