MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT ~ MARILYN SCHAEFFER

Hope you all had a happy and safe holiday season.  2015 begins with changes and opportunities.  As you probably know, for personal reasons, Betty Love stepped down as president, and I am now your interim president.  Judy McIntire is interim treasurer, Doris Hoffman is interim assistant treasurer, and Joan Annicchiarico is interim membership chair.  The position of vice president is open.  We have two director positions open:  Public Relations and Demonstration/Workshop Coordinator.  Anyone interested in filling these positions should contact me or other board members.  I heartily thank the board for so graciously making the transition a smooth one.

We have an exciting new partnership with the City Hall Art Gallery in Brooksville, (now renamed the Uptown Art Gallery).  Jennene Norman-Vacha, Brooksville City Manager, is a staunch advocate for promoting the arts in this area, and we are thrilled to be working with her.  SHAL has a permanent venue on the first floor of the gallery, and from late March till early May, our members will fill the whole gallery with our artwork.

In addition to the Uptown Gallery, venues for SHAL members include the Salishan Retirement Community, the Rising Sun Café, and the West Hernando Branch Library.  Shirley Dillon, our venue coordinator, is responsible for arranging exhibitors for these venues.  So, if you are interested in displaying your artwork at one of these venues, please contact Shirley at 352-686-9657 or shirleed7377@yahoo.com

We are in the process of planning events for this calendar year.  We are researching the possibility of a fashion show in the spring, an art festival in the fall, and partnering with other local arts organizations, both in Hernando County and surrounding areas.  The planning committee is developing other ideas to enhance SHAL's image as the premier visual arts organization in this area.  Watch your e-mail for announcements of dates and time and come join us.  It's important that we have as many members as possible involved in the planning process.  We value your ideas and hope to see more of you at the next planning meeting.
